I had the privilege of visiting China as part of a collaborative effort with Prof. Chenren Xu of Peking University. The main highlight of the trip was delivering a talk on “Resilient Self-Backhauling in mmWave Cellular Networks.” The journey also afforded me the opportunity to gain insights into the research conducted by professors and researchers in China’s academic landscape.

Peking University

The primary purpose of my visit to Peking University was to collaborate with Prof. Chenren Xu on resilient self-backhauling in mmWave cellular networks. The exchange of ideas and knowledge proved to be intellectually stimulating, and the collaboration holds great potential for future advancements in the field.

During my stay, I had the privilege of touring the state-of-the-art lab facilities at Peking University. The cutting-edge equipment and infrastructure showcased the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and research excellence. A significant part of my visit involved a detailed discussion on a prototype of a reconfigurable intelligent surface developed by Prof. Di Boya and his team. Exploring the potential applications and intricacies of this innovative technology provided valuable insights into the ongoing research efforts at Peking University.

Another highlight of my visit was the opportunity to witness the test and measurement processes conducted in an anechoic chamber. The precision and dedication to experimentation demonstrated by Prof. Di Boya’s team were commendable, emphasizing the importance of rigorous testing in cutting-edge research.

Shanghai

My journey extended to Fudan University in Shanghai, where I was hosted by Prof. Lifeng Wang. The warm welcome and hospitality extended by Prof. Wang and his team enhanced the overall experience of exploring the academic landscape at Fudan University.

Our discussions at Fudan University were marked by a deep dive into emerging fields, with a focus on Terahertz (THz) communication. Prof. Lifeng Wang provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in this domain, shedding light on the university’s ongoing research endeavors. Furthermore, our conversations extended to collaborative efforts in joint communication and sensing.

Taiwan

I had the privilege of visiting National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. The primary purpose of my visit was to engage in discussions with Prof. Li-Chun Wang, the dean of the faculty of electrical engineering. The focus of our conversations revolved around exploring potential collaborations and delving into joint projects, particularly in the realms of 6G joint communication and sensing technologies.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss various intriguing projects. Our conversations covered a wide range of topics, with a specific emphasis on advancing research and innovation in the fields of RISs. We explored potential collaboration avenues, identifying areas where our expertise could intersect to create meaningful contributions. The discussions were fruitful and laid the groundwork for future partnerships. A significant portion of our dialogue was dedicated to the exploration of joint communication and sensing technologies. This area holds promising potential for advancements that can have a profound impact on various fields.

Tokyo

The purpose of my recent trip to Tokyo was to visit two prominent research labs:

  1. Morikawa-Narusue Lab, University of Tokyo
  2. Sakaguchi Lab, Tokyo Institute of Technology

During these visits, I had the opportunity to present our latest research results, specifically the findings outlined in our Infocom 2023 paper, which focuses on resilient communication systems.

In the Morikawa-Narusue Lab, University of Tokyo we presented our latest research results and engaged in discussions with Prof. Narusue. We discussed potential areas of collaboration and knowledge exchange between our respective research groups.

In Sakaguchi Lab, Tokyo Institute of Technology we shared insights from our Infocom 2023 paper and received valuable feedback from the lab members. We also explored the possibilities of joint projects, focusing on the development of resilient approaches for future communication systems.
