Last Friday, the LOEWE Center emergenCITY and the MAKI Collaborative Research Centre hosted the Women* Networking Breakfast and Ruzena Bajcsy Lecture with Professor Eleni Chatzi from ETH Zurich.
At the breakfast, female Bachelor’s and Master’s students from the Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology degree programs had the chance to talk to Professor Chatzi in a relaxed atmosphere and ask her questions about what it’s like to have a career in research.
Afterwards, Eleni Chatzi gave the Ruzena Bajcsy Lecture with an exciting presentation on “Augmented Twins” for monitoring and data-supported decision support for more resilience of wind farms, for example. Eleni Chatzi holds the Chair of “Structural Mechanics & Monitoring” at ETH Zurich and researches innovative simulation tools and monitoring methods for the intelligent and data-driven diagnosis of technical systems.
The annual lecture at TU Darmstadt is named after the leading computer scientist Ruzena Bajcsy, who is a role model for female scientists. Her love of engineering and her tenacity to assert herself in a field in which women are still underrepresented today is exemplary. To celebrate Ruzena Bajcsy, we have been bringing leading female scientists to TU Darmstadt for the lecture for nine years now.
Overall, the networking day was very well received by the young female scientists. Among them were some of the winners of this year’s Female Student Travel Award. The event was originally scheduled to take place in the summer during the award ceremony for the eight winners, but unfortunately had to be canceled. We are now delighted that the event has been rescheduled.
emergenCITY actively promotes the exchange of women* at all career levels in science in the fields of computer science, engineering and “resilience”. Great networking events will take place again next year. We have set up a mailing list for all those who would like to stay up to date. Registration to: office@emergencity.de
