Since January 2024, Prof. Dr. Roderich Groß holds the professorship for Resilient Cyber-Physical Systems at the Department of Computer Science at TU Darmstadt - and now emergenCITY has also been able to recruit Groß as an Associate Principal Investigator. Groß conducts research at the interface of robotics and artificial intelligence: He and his team are working on the design and implementation of self-organized robotic systems that are highly autonomous and adaptable.
Groß researches the coordination of robots of various kinds using machine learning method. He is the developer of the machine learning method Turing Learning, and he works on natural computing ideas that use the distributed intelligence of natural systems, such as colonies of social insects, as a model for data processing.
The 46-year-old moved to TU Darmstadt from the UK, where he previously worked at the University of Sheffield as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering. He has also been a visiting scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), a JSPS Fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and a Research Associate at the University of Bristol. Groß is also editor and co-editor of various renowned journals in the field of robotics, swarm and computational intelligence.
emergenCITY warmly welcomes Prof. Dr. Roderich Groß to the team and is looking forward to the collaboration.
