emergenCITY Principal Investigator Iryna Gurevych has been honored with the prestigious “Milner Award and Lecture” by the British Royal Society, as the world’s oldest scientific academy announced on Wednesday, August 28. The prize is one of the most prestigious awards for outstanding achievements in computer science by a European researcher.
The computer scientist is the first female scientist in Germany and the first female university professor to receive this honor. She is being awarded “for her major contributions to natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence that combine deep understanding of human language and cognitive faculty with the latest paradigms in machine learning”, according to a statement from the Royal Society. In total, the Royal Society awarded 25 medals and awards to scientists worldwide.
