In January 2020 the research center “emergenCITY - The Resilient Digital City” under the direction of Prof. Dr. Matthias Hollick will start in Darmstadt. 23 professors from different disciplines will jointly research how cities can function better in crises and disasters. In addition to the Technical University of Darmstadt as the lead institution, the following are involved: the Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe, the Universität Kassel and the Philipps-Universität Marburg, as well as other strong national and international partners. emergenCITY will be funded as a centre for the next four years with around 17.5 million euros as part of the scientific funding programme LOEWE.
