As one of many examples, the flood in the Ahr valley last year showed that communication is particularly important – and sometimes even life-saving during an event of a crisis. However, the infrastructure that is crucial for communication often collapses: Electricity fails and with it mobile phone networks, telephones, etc. Scientists at emergenCITY are therefore working on an app that uses peer-to-peer communication to ensure stable operation even during an event of crisis. Whether chatting privately or posting messages publicly, whether during serious crisis or normal everyday life - the ReSON app is designed to maintain communication.
Sabine Schiner has written a detailed report on the development of the ReSON prototype in the Darmstädter Echo. You can read it in German language here. The results of the survey on the willingness to help in crisis situations mentioned in the article can be found separately here in English. Further information can also be found on the emergenCITY website in a news article and on the mission page of ReSON.
